Our Staff Team

Our staff members at Camp Summit host a friendly, creative, responsible, supportive and fun environment during your stay. They are an amazing group of outdoor educators, school teachers, university students/graduates and outdoor adventure leaders. Every staff member at the camp is chosen for their qualities of great leadership, good character and a sense of responsibility for the campers entrusted in their care.

All of the staff are certified in First Aid and CPR with advanced qualifications in Wilderness First Aid and Program Training.

Judging from the sheer amount and nature of the feedback we have received from parents, teachers, campers, there is little question that, as a staff, we give from the heart and connect with our campers in fresh and meaningful ways each year. From the start of our season to the end, our staff set the highest possible positive example for each other and for all of those who came through the gates of Camp Summit as we grew through our experiences and shared in the challenges that lay before us.

Every staff member at the camp is chosen for their qualities of great leadership, good character and a sense of responsibility for the campers entrusted in their care. Our Staff Team is in many ways family, as each year we welcome several former campers onto our team who have grown up at Camp and have moved through our SLC and LIT programs. With a staff return rate of over 70% each year, we are thrilled to support the growth of our team who wish to provide our campers the same Summit traditions and enriching experiences that they themselves had as campers. We are extremely grateful for our staff members ongoing passion, loyalty and commitment to Camp Summit, as together we can change lives.

Alex k.

Outdoor Education Instructor

Hey Camp Summit Family! My name is Alex Kiczales, also known as “cake boss” and I can’t wait to return for my 10th year (3rd as a staff member) in 2021. Currently, during the school year, I’m in the process of completing a dual Bachelors of Arts degree between both the Paris Institute of Political Studies in Reims, France, and The University of British Columbia on the beautiful Vancouver campus, with a major in Political Science and minor in Urban Studies. Additionally, as I’ve spent part of the past pandemic year working in the higher-education technology sector, I hope to bring some of the knowledge I’ve gained in bettering tools for group work to my first OE season this spring. Outside of work and school, I love to travel, having last (prior to the pandemic) spent part of 2019 solo-backpacking throughout Europe. Excited to get to know so many new and returning campers over the next couple of months!

Kristen M.

Biking director

I was born in Bridgwater, Nova Scotia. I am currently living in Calgary Alberta where I am a Lifeguard, Swim instructor, Swimming Coach and an Advanced Instructor. I also enjoy to go Mountain Bike during my free time. I have tons of experience working with children of all ages. I have been a swim instructor for 7 years.  I have a full summer of experience working  at Camp Chief Hector where I was a High Ropes Director working with children everyday! Skill sets that I will bring to camp are my years of experience instructing children. I understand how to connect to children and find different ways to help them understand what they are learning. I bring a safe but enthusiastic approach to my instructing skills. Having fun while learning is very important to me !

Marlie M.

Outdoor Education Instructor

Marlie is a new addition to the Camp Summit team this year. She has been a camper for over 6 summer seasons, and has been a camp staff for 5 seasons.  Marlie is known to be found rummaging through rock piles, attempting to pick the biggest blackberry from the tallest branch, or debating the age old question, is ketchup a smoothie? She is an outdoor adventure enthusiast and has devoted her life to exploring, paddling, and making dad jokes!

Marlie lives in Squamish, BC with her dog, Morrow. She is studying Geosciences and Science Communication at Quest University, but will be transferring to the University of Montana in fall 2021.  Before she moves to Montana, she wants to have a memorable and fulfilling time at camp with so many unforgettable people (and dogs!).

Megan t.

Hi all! My name is Megan and I was born and raised in North Vancouver, although Camp Summit has always felt like a second home to me. I started coming to camp when I was 9 years old and have fallen in love with working here. I grew up in a big family and competitive dance so I have always been helping babysit or teach kids. I love working with people and having conversations about anything, whether that is Disney, hockey, or painting I am all ears.”
