On-Site Activities
Archery: Our outdoor archery range provides campers with an opportunity to experience traditional long-bow archery under the careful supervision of a trained instructor. All campers will go to the archery range with their cabins, and have the opportunity to participate in elective archery sessions.
Arts & Crafts: What would camp be without arts and crafts? A chance to get creative during craft periods lets the campers try out everything from thai-dyeing to collages to duct tape wallets. Crafts also include beadwork, picture framing, painting and more.
Bouldering: At the Camp Summit bouldering wall, campers get all of the physical benefits of rock climbing without the height! It’s at the bouldering wall where campers learn climbing techniques through fun games and challenges.
Outdoor Living Skills: At Outdoor Living Skills campers learn how to build cooking fires in a safe setting. Once the fire is built, campers have the opportunity to cook bannock, s’mores, banana boats and more over the open fire and enjoy it with some delicious toppings. Campers will also learn how to set up a tarp shelter, use a camp stove or build a shelter out of what nature provides for you.
Climbing: At Camp Summit we offer climbers from beginner to advanced levels a chance to climb on our outdoor wall. All campers receive instruction and safety tips by certified instructors before climbing. Climbing wall sessions include belay lessons, climbing techniques and route management. Intermediate and senior campers will be able to take the skills they learned on the wall and put them to the test on a full-day rock climb. This day trip takes us into our backyard, The Squamish Chief and surrounding cliffs, home to some of the best climbing in North America. Summit has also begun to provide extensive bouldering programs to our keen climbers.
Eco-Centre Activities: This nature based program gives campers the opportunity to experience nature with all of their senses. Eco-Centre takes campers around the beautiful temperate rainforest that is Camp Summit, for a closer look at the natural world around them.
Field Games & Sports: Camp Summit boasts great playing fields on which we play soccer, football, ultimate frisbee and bocce ball, to name a few. Summit offers almost every sport under the sun! We also play a wide variety of traditional camp-wide games such as Capture the Flag, and Survival. The “Summit Olympics” and the “Copa Summit” are both all-camp sporting events, which last a full or half day. Summit now has a full 18-hole frisbee golf course on site!
Geocaching: An entertaining adventure game for GPS users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way for campers to learn how to navigate and take advantage of the wonderful features and capabilities of a GPS unit. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches which will then lead them to a fun surprise!
Guitar: Interested in learning how to play the guitar? Looking to improve your skills? At Summit campers can tap into their creative side with our guitar lessons and jam sessions. There’s nothing quite like playing the guitar around the campfire or spending some time learning new songs with friends.
High Ropes: The giants ladder, vertical playground and leap of faith are only a few of the elements that you will find at our high ropes course. This program allows campers to push the boundaries of their comfort zone while practicing trust and teamwork skills with their cabin group. With many high ropes elements to choose from, campers are able to participate at the level that best challenges them!
Low Ropes: Camp Summit has its very own low ropes course. Hanging only a few feet above the ground, cabin groups will be challenged in ways they never have before, all while learning valuable communication, problem solving and spotting skills.
Mountain Biking: Squamish is a world renowned mountain bike venue and provides campers with a wide range of trails offering varying degrees of difficulty. Our bike guides teach the campers riding techniques, trail etiquette and safety, while enjoying a true mountain ride. All bikes provided are front suspension x-country bikes. The bike helmets provided are Bell and Giro and pads are by RaceFace.
Orienteering: Campers have the opportunity to learn basic skills using a compass and map reading, taking a bearing and appliying these skills to day hikes or extended backcountry travel. Outdoor skills such as shelter building, proper backcountry kitchen and camp set-up as well as proper gear and equipment selection are explored. These skills help prepare campers for trips offered during the two-week session or family or peer backcountry travel.
Team Initiatives: Initiatives ignite cabin groups into working as a team through challenging them to solve unusual problems. It is a fantastic way to practice and learn about creativity, communication, support and leadership, all while having fun!
Drama: At Summit, we believe that including theatre in the program schedule is incredibly important. Camp helps young people to increase their skills in many areas, set goals and see their progress, but that is not limited to just those that are athletically inclined. By participating in a drama class or signing up to work on a flash mob, campers are able to work on social skills such as self-confidence and self-expression. Through fun games and silly dance moves, campers can experiment in a safe environment with their friends and let their creativity shine.
